Biography

travel

After a mixed school career I left home to work and travel around Europe and the Middle-East in the mid to late 1980s. Guided by Susan Griffith’s Work Your Way Around The World (still being updated and reprinted), I got by through a series of manual jobs in seven countries.

At one point I saved enough money to go to India and Nepal for six months and, at last with more time on my hands, I started reading voraciously for the first time since childhood and my early teens. The combination of India and books re-stimulated an intense intellectual curiosity that had remained largely dormant at secondary school.

education and work

On returning to the  UK I took a Humanities degree at Brighton University as a mature student and gained a 2/1 before working to fund further travelling in Asia.

Much of my working life has been spent in the field of health and social care including seven years combined in the NHS and Social Services working in mental health services. For the last twelve years I have been self employed as a yoga teacher and trainer, Thai massage therapist and reflexologist.

I have a long held interest in writing and the English language and have actively started to pursue this interest in the last few years. I have started to be published as a freelance writer as well as working as a freelance copywriter for Big Star Content.

I have worked towards additional qualifications including:

  • Freelance and Travel Writing Diploma from the London School of Journalism - 2009
  • Internet Journalism Course Diploma from the London School of Journalism – 2010

I am becoming experienced as a freelance writer and can confidently meet editorial objectives. I have good research skills and have gained experience interviewing people for a number of articles.

I am lucky in that personal interests largely match my professional ones. My other interests include novels, film, the outdoors, walking, table tennis, Manchester City FC and my two children whom I go out of my way to spend plenty of time with. I live in Totnes, Devon.

I have joined the bloggerati and some of my latest interests and musings are chronicled on http://nevillecregan.blogspot.com/
