Environmental Issues
Since studying environmental philosophy and politics as part of my degree in the late 1980s I have watched with interest how ideas that 20 or 30 years ago were considered cranky, irrelevant or just laughable to some are now gaining scientific credibility and pushing their way up the political agenda. Just how seriously the environment is really being taken by politicians perhaps remains to be seen.
Whilst I am not a scientist, I am interested in the social, cultural and philosophical changes that may and probably need to occur now and over coming decades in relation to the environment.
Just some areas of interest are
- The lack of any real knowledge in relation to global warming
- Outdoor and wilderness experiences and environmental awareness
- How traditional cultures related to their environment
- The Transition Town movement (which started where I live in Totnes, Devon)
- How our children and grandchildren will be living in decades to come
- What we can do now to make life easier for them
Social issues
I have also written on a range of social issues particularly relating to lifestyle, health and family life.
Parenting is one of my main areas of interest socially for the simple reason that being a parent has forced me to think about it a lot. Much of this feeds into my interest in health, well-being and the environment.
