Travel
On leaving home I spent three years working and travelling around Europe and the Middle East. Since then I have also travelled widely in the Indian Subcontinent, South East Asia, China and the UK.
Whilst I have settled in South Devon in the UK to raise my children, I am fortunate that some of my yoga teaching work affords me opportunities to travel. In recent years we have travelled as a family to continental Europe, South India and many places in the UK.
modes of travel
In general I am by instinct a budget traveller (though I am not averse to luxury at times!) and like to talk to people and get under the surface of the cultures that I encounter. To get around I generally prefer public transport, cycling or walking.
As well as traditional modes of travel I am also interested in Psychogeography (broadly - the effect of an environment on our emotions and state of being) as applied to the experience of travel. In respect of this I am a fan of walking as one of the best ways to absorb both natural and urban environments when realistic.
travel writers
Travel writers I particularly admire include: Dervla Murphy, William Dalrymple, Paul Theroux, Geoff Dyer and Jan Morris.
work
I am available for work for articles anywhere, but in particular for the South West of the UK (where I live) and western Europe, Turkey and India where I often travel for yoga teaching work anyway.
I can often provide high quality photographs to accompany articles.
Just some areas I am particularly interested in include:
- The history of travel
- The psychology of travel
- The philosophy of travel
- Responsible travel
- Walking
- Cycling
- Travel with children
- The Indian subcontinent
- South East Asia
- Europe
- The British Isles
- South Devon
